Location and Tenements
The Roe Project comprises a large tenement group centred about 120km east of Kalgoorlie, in the eastern Yilgarn Craton in Western Australia. The tenements are held 100% by Magma.
The project is prospective for nickel and copper mineralization.
Geology, Exploration History and Targets
Strike extensive ultramafic units of the Yindi Ultramafic Belt extend beneath soil cover over 25km in a north-south orientation through the centre of the tenement group. In the northern part of the area, in the vicinity of Round Hill, a cluster of intense aeromagnetic anomalies are interpreted to reflect a mafic-ultramafic complex. Early stage exploration by previous explorers has defined mineralization in two areas, Green Dam and Round Hill.
Green Dam
RC and diamond drilling has defined a 900m long zone of nickel-copper mineralization at the base of a mafic-ultramafic complex at the Green Dam prospect in the Yindi Ultramafic Belt. The mineralization is characterised by broad zones of disseminated sulphides with units of massive and semi-massive sulphides.
Recent drill intersections include 45m @ 0.60% Ni & 0.23% Cu and 24m @ 0.42% Ni & 0.13% Cu; several intervals of >1% Ni were included within these intersections.
Given the width of some drill intercepts and the strike length of the mineralization, there appears to be potential for a large-tonnage nickel-copper resource at the prospect.
Regional Potential
A helicopter-borne versatile time domain electro-magnetic (VTEM) survey has been flown over the northern part of the area. The survey mapped several anomalies to the north of Green Dam. Earlier reconnaissance drilling between Green Dam and Round Hill has also intersected zones of anomalous Ni-Cu-PGM values. The VTEM anomalies together with several geochemical anomalies of various types, including those at Round Hill, indicate that the Yindi Ultramafic Belt is prospective for Ni-Cu mineralization over a strike length of at least 15km.
